We are a small group of bookworms who would love to see more children in Belize have access to books and the opportunity to read! Because books are magic. ♥️
Without new bookstores, only one used bookstore, and a very small library with limited books on the island of Ambergris Caye, it’s tough for children to make reading a regular part of their childhood.
Our vision is to build “Little Free Libraries” for children in San Pedro, and we already have a great local woodworker working on them. But we need help with a CONSTANT surplus of books coming down to Belize to fill these libraries! We’ve partnered with Belize Freight to help with shipping/duty to get the books down to Belize. Now we just need your help to purchase and send the books!
Please consider purchasing books off Amazon, in stores, or at thrift stores and shipping them to us. However you can give, we’ll take it! Just one book can make a difference. We need the following:
Children’s books — especially picture books for little ones being read to by Spanish-speaking readers
Concept books for learning ABC & 123’s, etc
Books associated with kids TV Shows, such as Sprout, Peppa Pig, Dora, etc.
Books associated with popular movies such as Moana, Cars, Frozen, etc.
Books that speak to the culture here on the island — Spanish, Creole, Mestizo, Garifuna, Mayan, island life, Central America, sealife, mermaids, etc.
Books in both English and Spanish with pictures to help with ESL
